The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Debt Relief Scheme on 2 June 2026. The scheme provides a crop loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakh per farmer, with no landholding criterion, and is built around three components — Debt Relief, One-Time Settlement (OTS) and Incentive Benefits.

Key highlights
- Loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakh (principal + interest) on short-term crop loans.
- Farmers with dues below ₹2 lakh become completely debt-free after the waiver.
- Farmers with dues above ₹2 lakh must repay the excess by 31 March 2027; the government then credits ₹2 lakh into the loan account (One-Time Settlement).
- Farmers who repaid loans on time can get an incentive of up to ₹50,000.
- No landholding limit — small and large farmers alike are covered.

How the waiver is expected to work
Farm loan waivers in Maharashtra are typically implemented through a dedicated state portal where banks upload eligible loan accounts, farmers verify their details via Aadhaar authentication, and the waiver amount is settled directly with the lending bank. Watch for the official implementation notification — until then, keep repaying as advised by your bank to avoid being classified as a defaulter if any cut-off criteria apply.
What farmers should do now
- Keep your loan documents, Aadhaar and bank passbook ready and consistent (same name spelling everywhere)
- Confirm your crop loan account is Aadhaar-seeded at the bank branch
- Do not pay any agent — waiver benefits are settled bank-to-government with Aadhaar verification
- Check announcements only on official Maharashtra government channels and your bank
Where to verify updates
Follow the Maharashtra cooperation department announcements and your district collector office notices. We will update this page as the implementation portal and eligibility lists go live.
