The e-Shram card is the national registration for unorganised-sector workers — labourers, domestic workers, street vendors, gig workers, agricultural workers and more. Registration is free, takes about 10 minutes online, and gives you a permanent 12-digit UAN plus access to accident insurance cover and central/state welfare benefits routed through the e-Shram database.
Benefits of the e-Shram card
- Accident insurance: cover up to ₹2 lakh (death/permanent disability) and ₹1 lakh (partial disability) under PMSBY linkage
- A permanent Universal Account Number (UAN) valid across India
- Priority access to welfare schemes targeted at unorganised workers — skill programmes, pensions and state benefits

Frequently asked questions
Is there any age proof or income proof needed?
No income proof is needed. Age comes from Aadhaar. You just self-declare that you are an unorganised worker and not in EPFO/ESIC.
Do I need to renew the card?
No — the UAN is permanent. Just update your details (occupation, mobile, bank) on the portal when they change; updating at least once a year is recommended.
Can students or formal employees register?
No. The card is only for unorganised-sector workers. EPFO/ESIC members and income-tax payers are not eligible.
